The 2021 Ebenzer Shiraz is aromatically bursting with cassis, blackberry pie, salted licorice and cocoa dust. There is blueberry coulis, too. In the mouth, the wine is unfettered, supple and elegant, and the tannins are wrapped around a core of pure fruit. It is crystalline, in a way. Chalky and shapely. Very, very good.
Callum hat diese Lage exclusiv für sein Weingut.
Planted by the Hoffmann family in 1951, right out the back of their home. We are nearing three decades of my family working with the Hoffmanns so to have the opportunity to work with this site is a treasured sentiment.
2021 marks Home Old’s 70th year and as a tribute to these old vines this wine is predominantly Dimchurch Home Old, with splashes of Dallwitz, Hill and Limit Lodge.

This 2021 Flaxman Valley Shiraz is Callum Powell's fourth release, but this is only his second year of making a single Flaxman wine and a single Ebenezer wine, both Syrah. It was fermented wild with whole clusters in closed vats. This wine is incredibly perfumed and fragrant. There's raspberry coulis, red licorice, black tea and graphite... it's grippy and fine. What a gorgeous wine this is. Long, undulating and elegant AF. I love the tannins—so chalky and fully ameliorated into the fruit, melted almost. There’s a charred lamb fat character in the fruit. This has impressive restraint and length. Awesome. Star on the rise. 13.5% alcohol.
Flaxman Valley
2021 Flaxman comprises mostly Nathan Burley’s hillside site next door to our home, with a small inclusion of our old vines out the front of our house and one puncheon of Christa and Leon Deans’ Naimanya vineyard just up Flaxmans Valley Road.
All of these old-vine sites are within a stone’s throw of each other and all straddle the top of the quartz-riddled granitic ridge of Flaxman Valley at about 500m altitude, with the Naimanya vineyard slightly higher in altitude at 520m, being one of the highest shiraz sites in South Australia.
